Default Best video settings?

Hello, here is my dilemma with youtube:

Every once in a while I run into a video that looks GREAT when played in the default small [360p] player, however looking at any other video the usual quality you get is shitty blocking artifacts, discoloration, complete bluriness of the image...

What is the absolute best render settings\codecs that you can use for youtube use? Because I've rendered out a completely raw [Uncompressed] 500MB video that is barely 4 seconds long, FULL HD, 24fps and it still looks terrible. However, if I switch it to 720p it looks as good as 360p SHOULD look by default, and looks as good as SOME video's I've seen in the default 360p player.

Here's an example:

Looks nice, clean, sharp and smooth.

Absolute garbage [for my giant-stick-up-the-ass standards, at least], the entire image now has a greenish tint that doesn't exist, blocking artifacts and overall the image is blurry to the point that the text is almost unreadable.

It is very difficult to express properly through pictures so here:
Canon Video, switch between 360p and 720p alternately to see the difference...

If raw footage isn't enough for half decent results, then what the hell is?

I have never seen it do that before changing between the two, the tint especially. Have you tried rendering as WMV in full HD and doing another test? I am unsure what is causing it myself but testing is a good start. Good luck sorting this out by the way

Thumbs up

These have given pretty ok results:

Preferred formats for best results: .MOV, .MP4
Uncompressed format if possible
HD 1280x720pixels
No compression on audio if possible (otherwise, MP3 audio 320kbps Stereo if the original is stereo, otherwise keep mono)
The frame rate of your movie. In other words, do not change it.

Havent used these myself, but a frind of mine has better camera and is using these as guidelines. Unfortanaly I dont have a camera that would support that 1280x720

Tested HD WMV, it looked perhaps 0.01% better but by absolutely no means decent.

Here's an example of a video that has great sharpness right off the bat:
Hacked Panasonic GH1 Vs Canon T2i - YouTube

Notice how not only is the overall video image quality sharp, you can actually see the pixels when "HACKING THE GH1" appears on the screen, the intro is also really sharp and of great quality, also looking at the GH1 footage it looks great also... Am I missing something here, am I supposed to pay royalties or some bullshit to youtube to get this decent quality?

EDIT: 720p is still an improvement over standard 360p in that video, but my point is, is that it still looks really damn sharp with just standard 360p.
